Tom Fletcher has revealed that he is launching a children’s book club at WHSmith.

The McFly star and best-selling children’s author announced the news with an incredibly funny and captivating song. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, we see Tom sneak into WHSmith after closing time. As he creeps around the store, he sings about needing a new book club which will encourage children to read, before declaring:

We need a book club, a children’s book club, but who could choose the books? Well how about me?

Tom sings about superhero children, witches and some of the other great characters you can expect from his selection of books. He then defaces pictures of Zoella and Richard & Judy, who also have WHSmith book clubs, before cheekily declaring that his is better!

Tom took to Instagram to share that his children’s book club will kick off tomorrow (Monday September 11) with ten great books which will hopefully encourage children to read. The ten books are:

• I Am Not A Loser by Jim Smith
• Kid Normal by Greg James and Chris Smith
• A Place Called Perfect by Helena Duggan
• Sputnik’s Guide To Life on Earth by Frank Cottrell Boyce
• Utterly Me, Clarice Bean by Lauren Child
• Beetle Boy by M.G. Leonard
• Witch Wars by Sibeal Pounder
• You’re a Bad Man Mr Gum! by Andy Stanton
• My Brother is a Superhero by David Solomons
• Dog Man by Dave Pilkey

Getting children excited about reading from a young age is incredibly important, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start, especially with kids who are less confident when it comes to books. And so in an effort to put more books into little hands, we’ve teamed up with one of the most exciting children’s authors to emerge in recent years, to launch the very first Tom Fletcher Book Club, exclusive to WHSmith.

Tom is a best-selling children’s author, releasing his first story ‘The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas’ with bandmate Dougie Poynter in 2012. Since then, they have released numerous books in the series. Tom released his first solo children’s book, ‘The Christmasaurus’, in 2016 which will be brought to life on stage this Christmas. His latest offering is ‘There’s A Monster In Your Book’ whilst his new story ‘The Creakers’ will be released on October 5.
